CQN 4 Pillars - DCI Highlight

About CQN Culture

The Center for Quantum Networks is committed to the recruitment and retention of a diverse membership of faculty, staff, postdocs and students that exceed the national averages, and to create a scientific home for all CQN members that is open, supportive, inclusive, and fosters a sense of belonging. CQN values its inclusive culture as much as it strives for excellence in research.

CQN is committed to engaging groups underrepresented in STEM and in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) as a whole, and it seizes on all of its partner institutions, including its three Minority-Serving Institutions (MSI's), to bring in and retain members from underserved communities. CQN's MSI include:

  • University of Arizona: Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), undergraduate population of 26.8% with 31% of their undergrads Pell grant eligible
  • Northern Arizona University: HSI with 23.9% Hispanic and also 38% Pell grant eligible
  • Howard University: Historically Black College/University (HBCU) with 89.4% Black/AA and 45% Pell grant eligible.

At all three of these institutions, at least 50% of the undergraduate population is female/trans/non-binary, and similar percentages for undergraduates are maintained in the Center.
